Principal's Weekly Message for 10-23-17 to 10-27-17

Hello Dixie Families and staff,

There are several events for this busy week.

  • This week we will have our informational meeting regarding our new report card, the parent Passport and the SBAC annual state test on Wednesday for TK to 2nd grade parents and Thursday for 3rd to 5th grade parents at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Childcare will be provided.
  • On Thursday at 11:10 am we will hold our annual “Shake Out’ drill.
  • In addition, our reflections artwork is due Friday and our movie night will be on Saturday October 28. Please refer to any letters or flyers you have received for more details.
  • Thank you for your participation in the Spell-a-thon it was a great success. Thank you for your continued support for our programs and students

Lastly, you may want to take this message off speaker if children are around. Last week students reported seeing an unknown male sitting in a black or dark van holding what appeared to be a gun. As soon as it was reported to school personnel, police were called and an investigation was begun.  They were unable to locate any suspect. School police has increased their patrols around the school. It is important to be vigilant and report any suspect activity to police and school personnel. Please remind your children of the following:

  • Avoid walking alone
  • Never take a ride with or walk with a stranger
  • If a stranger approaches, or attempts to get the child into a vehicle, children should scream and run for help
  • Students should use precautionary measures, even while waiting inside of the school yard, until parents arrive.
  • Parents and students should maintain good communication about pick-up/drop-off times and locations
  • Never walk in an isolated area or alley

Tell students to immediately report anything that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable to the police and/or a school staff member.  We are inviting law enforcement and school personnel to a Safety Meeting, at 8:30 am Monday in the auditorium. If you are unable to attend, please refer any questions to Mrs. Yniguez or Mrs. Cordano at dixiecanyongovernance@gmail.com or call (818) 784-6283.

These occurrences remind us that we live in a highly-populated area and maintaining good relationships with our neighbors, including the businesses and residences around our school is important to our safety. Take some time this week to hug one another because everyone of you is precious. We will see you tomorrow on time and ready to dive into learning. Good afternoon.
